Calendar Groupings make getting into new fiscal years easier. Calendar Groupings allows you to copy forward Quotas into subsequent calendars and avoid rebuilding Payment Rules at the start of each year. Grouping Calendars does not mean the build has to flow into subsequent years. Read Getting into the New Year and Effective Dating Payment Rules for more information into how to best utilize this functionality at the start of a new year.
If you use Holds and Releases and want to carry hold balances over into the new year, Calendar Groupings will need to be created.
