To give credit in SimplyComp, the user’s name needs to be listed on a given deal in the Compensable Report. When the User’s name is not listed directly in the data, we utilize Lookup Tables to give credit. The below process is normally used to credit Managers, a team of Solution Engineers, and more.
Below we outline the steps to take to give credit to a Director that is not listed within the data. We know the names of the Sales Representatives that roll up to the director are present in the import file, so we will build this logic into a Lookup Table.
- Create a new Lookup Table that has the Sales Rep/Deal Owner’s name and the Manager/Director Name
- Create a new Lookup Column in the Compensable Report you’re trying to give credit in. Select “Add Column” in the top left corner and then build your Lookup column to reference this new table. This will add the Manager’s name in text on the deal - we still need one more step to give credit.
- Don’t forget to add your User Details Lookup Column! Add a User Details column lookup for this new Manager column. Similar process to above, but this time the column will be looking up to the User Details table. Use the column just created in Step 2 as the “Value to Use”. Now this column will be a mappable column (you will notice the little user image on the column title) to use in your Payment Rule Mapping.
This example outlined how to essentially build your hierarchy into a lookup table. If you have a team that gets credit for all deals sold within that team, you can also leverage the lookup to credit the team. The most common use case we see is having all people in a certain region get credit for each other’s deals. If the region is always listed in the data, the lookup table can have the Rep’s names listed out in column A with their associated region in column B.
